Where is Vu Dai village?

Vu Dai is the name of a village in a literary work - Chi Pheo, which is very famous to every Vietnamese people. The background of this masterpiece is based on Dai Hoang village settings that belongs to Nhan Hau Ward, Ly Nhan District, Hanam Province, Vietnam (about 100km from Hanoi Capital to the South)

More about Chi Pheo, written by author Nam Cao in 1941 with background in Vu Dai village, where a poor and lonely man named Chi Pheo is turned into a "monster" by the bullying of corrupt authorities and rich people. In the past, people in Vu Dai were very poor; they worked every day for each single meal. Only in Tet holiday, the traditional New Year holiday of Vietnam, they permitted theirselves to eat well with “Ca Kho” – braised fish, baked in a clay pot, made from high classic fresh-water fish (the black carp) and many other natural spices: onion, ginger, chili, lemon, .... However, they made it very salty to use sparingly and to storage longer without refrigerator. Therefore, “Ca Kho” has been becoming the famous specialty.

Nowadays, Vu Dai villagers are not so poor as at that period, Ca Kho still is the famous specialty not only in local but also nationwide and many foreigners know about it when they visit Vietnam.

Tran Luan manufacture factory is the biggest and the first who brought this specialty to food lovers nationwide via internet. We helped Vu Dai villagers living far from hometown to share their homesickness by sending them this special food, we also helped them to introduce the village’s present to their friends.
